Osimhen Insists Super Eagles Must Get World Cup Ticket As Awaziem Bemoans Ndidi’s Absence

Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, has repeated his call for the Super Eagles to push themselves over the line and return to the FIFA World Cup stage.

Nigeria failed to reach the last tournament in Qatar, and the players are determined not to let history repeat itself.

Naija News reports that the team moved a step closer on Thursday after a convincing 4-1 win against Gabon in the playoff semi-final. The victory booked a place in Sunday’s final against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat, where everything rests on one match.

Speaking after the game, Osimhen told ESPN he believes the squad has everything required to keep Nigeria’s World Cup dream alive. “We can get it done,” he said. “We have the squad to actualise this dream of going to the World Cup because everyone wants to go to the World Cup.”

The mood in camp remains upbeat, but there is one major setback. Wilfred Ndidi will sit out the decisive fixture after receiving a suspension for accumulated yellow cards. His absence, according to defender Chidozie Awaziem, is a serious blow.

Awaziem shared his concerns with journalists in Rabat after the win over Gabon. “We’re definitely going to miss him [Ndidi],” he said.

The centre-back added that the group remains confident regardless of who steps in. “But we have other players as well who can play the same position and who are good as well. We trust everyone. The coach trusts everyone, everyone’s ability, and I just hope that whoever comes in the position of Wilfred is going to try to do better than him or try to give it all so that the team can come out with a victory,” he continued.

Sunday’s showdown in Morocco will determine who advances to the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026.
