Thirteen New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) lawmakers in the House of Representatives have denied rumors of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming loyalty to the party and the Kwankwasiya Movement.
The speculation began Thursday after two Kano NNPP members—Abdulmumin Jibrin (Kiru/Bebeji) and Sagir Koki (Kano Municipal), joined the APC, sparking claims of a wider exodus. In a joint statement, the 13 lawmakers dismissed the rumors as “unfounded” and the work of “political detractors” alarmed by NNPP’s growing influence.
“We categorically debunk these rumours and urge the public to disregard such misleading claims,” they said.
They stressed that bipartisan engagement is part of their legislative duty and not a sign of disloyalty.
“We remain steadfast in our allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-centred governance,” the statement read.
The lawmakers—Garba Diso, Ghali Tijjani, Rabi’u Yusuf, Abdulhakeem Ado, Hassan Danjuma, Muhammad Shehu, Datti Yusuf, Sani Wakili, DanKawu Idris, Tijjani Jobe, Hassan Hussain, Mukhtar Yarima, and Muhammed Chiroma, pledged continued focus on good governance, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and better living standards.
