Troops Assist 74 Stranded NYSC Members in Borno, Prevent Possible Abduction – Arise News

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, have rescued seventy four (74) members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from a possible abduction attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.

The incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday when three buses conveying the corps members, thirty six (36) males and thirty eight (38) females, developed mechanical faults near an area notorious for Reliable sources stated that the rescue followed a swift military response after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system monitored by troops detected unusual movement along the route.

“On arrival, troops discovered 74 NYSC members stranded after their vehicle developed mechanical faults. The troops immediately rescued them to prevent a likely abduction attempt by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area,”

Further findings revealed that the corps members had earlier been escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of the 7 Division Garrison. However, after arriving in Damaturu, they reportedly failed to inform Sector 2 Headquarters before continuing their journey to Hawul Local Government Area without an armed escort.

The rescued corps members are currently being accommodated at the Buratai military base pending arrangements for their safe movement to their destination.

Security sources say the swift intervention highlights the growing effectiveness of real time surveillance systems in countering insurgent threats in the North-East.
