Former Chelsea and Brazil international Oscar has been hospitalised after suffering a heart-related incident during a fitness test at São Paulo’s training facility on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old midfielder reportedly became unwell while undergoing pre-season physical assessments with São Paulo.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Oscar collapsed while on an exercise bike and was unconscious for about two minutes before being treated by medical staff.

He was immediately attended to by São Paulo’s medical team and doctors from Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the scene.

Club confirms stable condition

In an official statement, São Paulo FC confirmed that Oscar was stabilised and transferred to hospital for further evaluation.

“Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes and was promptly attended to by the club’s professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita,” the statement read. “He is in stable condition and remains under observation for additional tests to clarify the diagnosis.”

Future in doubt

Reports suggest Oscar is now considering retirement due to the seriousness of the health scare.

The midfielder, who returned to São Paulo in December 2024 on a three-year contract, has spent most of the last decade playing in China with Shanghai Port after leaving Chelsea in 2017.

Oscar began his career at São Paulo before rising to prominence with Internacional and earning 48 caps for Brazil, representing the national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
