Prof. Haruna Ayuba, Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, has attributed the university’s academic achievements to its commitment to excellence, institutional growth, and spiritual and societal development over the past two decades.
Ayuba made the remarks during a news conference ahead of the university’s 6th convocation ceremony on Tuesday at its Karu campus in Nasarawa State.
He said the ceremony not only celebrates the graduands’ academic accomplishments but also recognises dedication to educational excellence.
“The 6th convocation is a momentous occasion, offering an opportunity for everyone to listen to an insightful and inspiring convocation lecture.
“It also allows us to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our graduating students through the award of degrees and prizes.”
Ayuba said the event would showcase modest achievements while marking the university’s 20th anniversary through the unveiling of a commemorative book, Bingham University @ 20.
He recalled that the university was established by the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in 2005 to provide a conventional university experience grounded in Christian values.
“Our vision is to be a world-class conventional university in a Christ-centred environment. Our mission is to produce graduates with knowledge, skills, and fear of Christ for self-reliance,” he said.
Ayuba said the university currently has 15 faculties and 63 departments offering 48 undergraduate and 59 postgraduate programmes.
The main campus is in Karu, while the Teaching Hospital and College of Medical Sciences are at the Jos campus.
He acknowledged four past Vice-Chancellors for their contributions to the university’s growth and said he assumed office as the 5th substantive Vice-Chancellor on Jan. 8, 2024.
He commended all past and present members of the Board of Trustees, the Governing Council, Senate, and university management for their sacrifices towards institutional development.
“For undergraduate programmes, 1,116 graduands were found worthy in both character and learning to be awarded first degrees in various disciplines for the 2024/2025 session,” he said.
“The breakdown includes: First Class 82, Second Class Upper 464, Second Class Lower 260, Third Class 40, Pass 2, and Unclassified (B. Pharm, MBBS) 268.
“For postgraduate programmes, 460 graduands will be awarded various degrees, including Ph.D. 44, Academic Masters 158, Professional Masters 200, and Postgraduate Diploma 58, totalling 460,” he added.
“This brings the total number of graduands for convocation to 1,576,” Ayuba said, congratulating them on behalf of the Board, Council, Management, Senate, staff, and stakeholders.
He said certificates would be ready for collection after the ceremony, reflecting the university’s commitment to efficient and effective service delivery.
Ayuba commended management and stakeholders for their contributions, noting their efforts have elevated the university’s profile nationally and globally.
“The university is committed to partnering with stakeholders to project Nigeria’s image positively,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 6th convocation ceremony for the 2024/2025 graduands is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025.
