Bauchi Police Arrest Two Suspects For Alleged Cattle Rustling


The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two young men accused of cattle rustling in Maikwangi village, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Umar Usman, 24, and Auwal Mohammed, 22, were apprehended for allegedly stealing ten cows during a coordinated operation.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Saturday.

“On August 14, 2025, at about 0930hrs, intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicated a suspected gang of cattle rustlers around Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi State,” Wakil stated.

According to him, detectives attached to the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with other security agencies and led by the Divisional Police Officer, acted swiftly on the intelligence report.

“They successfully arrested two suspects possessing ten cattle suspected to have been stolen,” he added.

The police spokesperson further explained that during interrogation, the suspects, who are residents of Magana district in Sabo LGA, Kaduna State, confessed to conspiring about a month earlier to raid a Fulani settlement in Gwamnare bush, Maikwangi village, where the cattle were rustled.

“Members of the public, particularly the community of the Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi, and the entire public, are requested to further disseminate this information for the possible tracing of the rightful owners of these recovered stolen cattle,” Wakil appealed.

He noted that investigation is ongoing, stressing that the suspects will be profiled and subsequently charged in court once inquiries are concluded.
