The President, New Horizons for Peace and Charity Initiative (NHPCI) Mr Uche Udungwor, has said that, the U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on Nigeria’s insecurity was for public good.
Udungwor, whose peace and charity organisation promotes community harmony, carry out humanitarian works and rehabilitates displaced persons gave the insight in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
The NHPCI boss, described Trump’s position on Nigeria as apt and a welcomed development.
He said that it was rather unfortunate that the all-important and bold decision taken by Trump is being given a religious coloration in certain quarters that could hinder the process capable of fostering peace, stability and end to terrorism in the country.
According to him until we begin to see things from national perspective and greater public good and interest, development might elude the country.
“It’s only a sworn hypocrite that will tell you that all is well with Nigeria, especially, as it concerns security matters.
“The level of insecurity in Nigeria has gone beyond the capacity of our security agencies, hence the need for foreign collaboration and intervention.
“From available verifiable records and data, no one will dispute the fact that people are being killed, kidnapped and abducted in the country.
“Terrorism is prevalent in the land and the challenge has overwhelmed our operatives so solution ought to be sought externally to halt the meance,” he said.
He said that Trump rising to the occasion and standing to be counted when it mattered, while other world leaders looked the other way should be commended.
He regretted that some of the people kicking against Trump’s Speech and its imminent military action have neither directly nor indirectly felt the devastating pains of the terror freely unleashed by these terrorists.
“Sometimes, I wonder how people at zones such as Bornu and North West go about with their lives with violent crimes at its peak there.
“As the leader of an organisation with the mandate for promoting global peace, I have visited and interacted one-on-one with many victims of these violent attacks in the course of our rehabilitation mission and project in the affected communities in Northern Nigeria. It’s such a pathetic story,”
He appealed that rather than reject Trump’s move, President Bola Tinubu should seize the opportunity and work with Trump, to end terrorism and foster sanity in the country.
“The President should be weary of those opposed toTrump’s agenda as his enemies and enemies of Nigeria by extension.
