Alleged genocide: Lawmaker dismisses Trump’s threat

The member representing Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, has dismissed fears among Nigerians over a reported attack threat allegedly issued by the United States President, Donald Trump, following allegations of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Akinosi made this known at the sideline of the 2025 Ayetoro Yewa Day celebration and the community’s launch of a N1 billion Arcade and Civic Centre, held weekend.

The lawmaker questioned why the American government would issue such a threat when Nigeria, according to him, is recording significant progress in the fight against insurgency and improving its economic indicators.

He noted that although insecurity remains a major challenge, the present administration is addressing it decisively and steadily achieving success.

Akinosi assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s government is fully in control of the situation and that there is no need for panic.

“Well, insecurity is everywhere in Nigeria and it did not start with the present administration. This has been going on for about 20 years now but this administration has taken the bull by the horns and the present administration is tackling insecurity headlong. We are achieving success all around. If you check you will see that we are restoring the local government back to its expected status.

“Whatever has been said by President Trump is more of a political declaration. Why did they not say anything like this before? Why are they coming up with this at a time when we are winning the war? These mad people killing people do not know race, colour, or religion. They are killing Nigerians and Mr President has said he remains resolute in tackling insecurity and we are giving him every support necessary in the national assembly.

“To Nigerians, there is no cause for alarm, no reason for apprehension, we are on top of it and the president is leading us well”, he said.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare and Principal Host of the occasion, Dr. Iziaq Salako, commended President Tinubu’s administration for its focus on people-oriented projects.

Salako noted that in the past two years, the federal government has constructed road projects worth ₦550 billion in the Yewa area of Ogun State.

“If you look around you will notice that we have never had it this good in Ogun state and particularly in Yewa, you will notice that the projects that have been done in recent times are meeting the needs of the people in Ogun west.

“One of the greatest challenges we have in this area of the state is a good road network and you will notice that the government is not working on roads. We have now awarded 163 kilometers of roads with a value of N550bn.

“To cover four local governments in Ofun west, starting from Ijoga end of Yewa north up to Ado in Ado Odo Ota leading to Badagry. I’m sure you know that the longest road in Ogun west starting from Ilara to Ifonyin tedo some part if it is already done and we are not stopping yet”, he added.

The event drew dignitaries from across the state, who commended the federal government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the welfare of Nigerians.

Present at the event were House of Representatives member representing Yewa North/ Imeko Afon Federal constituency, Gboyega Isiaka, member Ogun House of assembly, Adegoke Adeyanju, former Speaker of the Ogun state House of Assembly, Suraji Ishola, Chairman IBD Group of Companies, Ibrahim Egungbohun, among others.
