The re-elected Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has expressed deep gratitude to residents of the state, describing his renewed mandate as both a “victory” and a “historic moment” for Anambra.

Naija News reports that Soludo spoke in Awka on Sunday, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the 2025 governorship election, securing a second term alongside his deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim.

Addressing supporters, the governor said the people of Anambra had demonstrated overwhelming confidence in his administration. He contrasted the 2025 election with his first victory in 2021, when turnout was significantly lower.

Soludo noted that his victory placed him among a very small group of governors in Anambra who have secured re-election since 1999. He added that the scale of voter support in this poll was unprecedented.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has dismissed the designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) by former United States President, Donald Trump, describing the move as an attempt to inflame religious tensions and destabilise the country.

Naija News reports that the Council made its position known on Sunday in Abuja, insisting that claims of “Christian genocide” in Nigeria were false, politically motivated, and rooted in foreign propaganda.

Speaking at a media briefing, the National Secretary of the Council, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stressed that both Muslims and Christians suffer from the same security challenges fuelled by terrorism, criminality, inequality, and climate-driven resource conflicts.

He argued that independent investigations by global conflict monitors, including Amnesty International, have found no evidence that the violence in Nigeria meets the legal threshold for genocide.

The NSCIA maintained that the renewed foreign interest in Nigeria’s religious composition was not coincidental.

The Presidency has announced that Nigeria has recorded an 81 per cent reduction in terror-related deaths since 2015, attributing the decline to intensified counter-insurgency operations and improved collaboration between security agencies and affected communities.

The update was contained in a statement posted on the Presidency’s official 𝕏 account on Sunday.

According to the statement, more than 13,000 terrorists have been eliminated in the past year alone, while 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered to authorities as security forces continue to expand operations.

The Presidency added that more than 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their communities, with reconstruction ongoing in areas once devastated by insurgency.

The Federal Government, it said, has also established a Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict, designed to rebuild communities, support reintegration, and restore livelihoods for displaced households.

Tension erupted on Sunday, November 9, 2025, along Onitsha Road, Anambra State, after some Nigerian Army personnel allegedly opened fire on police officers returning from election duty.

It was gathered that the clash occurred at a military checkpoint, where an argument broke out between officers of both security agencies before the soldiers reportedly fired shots at the policemen.

One of the affected policemen, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said the confrontation escalated suddenly.

“Happening now on our way coming back from Anambra State election, we had a misunderstanding with Army personnel at a military checkpoint. Before we know what was going on, they opened fire on us,” he said.

He added that one officer was shot directly in the chest while several others sustained injuries.

Operatives of a special operations unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a wanted drug lord, Yussuf Abayomi Azeez.

Naija News reports that the 40-year-old was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos while on his way to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a holy pilgrimage, after months of intelligence and surveillance on him and his criminal drug activities.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the drug kingpin had been arrested and charged for drug offences in the United Kingdom but jumped bail and escaped to Nigeria.

Also, at the Sifax bonded terminal in Okota, Lagos, NDLEA operatives in conjunction with men of Customs Service and other security agencies on Friday, 7th November, discovered 105.5kg Molly, a designer drug and 500grams of methamphetamine during a joint examination of a shipment.

In Niger state, NDLEA operatives on Thursday, 6th November, intercepted Ibrahim Mohammed, 35, in a Volvo truck marked GRZ 872 XA along Kainji-Wawa road while conveying 87,000 pills of tramadol and 72kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis.

African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, John Nwosu, has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, describing it as a “ruse and total subversion of the people’s will”.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) the winner of the poll on Sunday, with 422,664 votes.

Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) finished second with 99,445 votes, while Nwosu placed fifth with 8,208 votes.

In a statement issued after the election, Nwosu alleged that widespread vote buying marred the entire exercise.

Nwosu emphasised that “true victory is judged not by the outcome but by the integrity of the process”.

The ADC candidate also called for an end to the “culture of electoral corruption” if Nigeria truly desired a prosperous and just society.

Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed plans to return to school to strengthen his understanding of the music business.

Naija News reports that the singer, famous for his hit track Zazu, explained that although he holds an OND from Kwara State Polytechnic, he believes further education will help him manage his career more independently.

Portable said he will use this education to handle his record label, Zeh Nation, and oversee his music platforms without relying entirely on others.

He said in a video on his Instagram page, “Even though I already have an OND from Kwara State Polytechnic, I still want to further my education so I can understand my music royalties and business deals better, especially for my record label, Zeh Nation.”

Laila Charani, the fifth wife of Nigerian lawmaker and businessman, Ned Nwoko, has broken her silence amid the growing controversy surrounding her husband and his actress wife, Regina Daniels.

Naija News reports that in a calm reaction to the ongoing saga, the Moroccan-born entrepreneur shared on Instagram that she is too focused on building her peace, life, and family to be distracted by drama.

She wrote: “Too busy building my peace, my life, and my family with no time for anything less.”

Her message was accompanied by a video showing her relaxing with her children at a luxury resort.

Her post comes amid escalating tensions between Nwoko and Regina’s family, especially after the actress publicly alleged that her mother was being unfairly dragged into her marital issues.

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has shared her view on how people should treat the misfortunes of others.

Naija News reports that she said she would never laugh at someone else’s struggles, explaining that life can change quickly and unpredictably.

According to a post on her Instagram page, a person who finds joy in another’s hardship may one day need help and mercy from those very people they ignored or judged.

She called on everyone to practice kindness, noting that it is often overlooked but comes at no cost.

Tonto described life as having a way of shifting unexpectedly, reminding the public that compassion and understanding are essential in dealing with others.

Former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards, has praised Bayern Munich winger, Michael Olise, for rejecting a move to Chelsea and securing a switch to the Bundesliga giants.

Richards commended the 23-year-old for making what he described as a career-defining decision, saying Olise has grown immensely since joining Bayern in 2024.

“He has taken his game to the next level,” Richards said, as quoted by OneFootball.

Bayern Munich beat Chelsea to the signing of Olise in 2024, despite strong interest from the London club. After missing out on the French winger, Chelsea went on a spree, signing Pedro Neto, Alejandro Garnacho, and Estevao to strengthen their attack.

Richards noted that Olise made the smarter choice by opting for Bayern.
