VP Shettima Returns To Abuja After COP30



Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Abuja following a high-impact outing at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, where he positioned Nigeria as Africa’s climate finance frontrunner.

Representing President Bola Tinubu at the Leaders’ Climate Summit hosted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s keynote statement, “The Rational Soul of Nature.”

He urged global leaders to value ecosystems economically and channel predictable, equitable funding into restoration, while reaffirming Nigeria’s “solemn national commitment” to planetary preservation.

On the sidelines, Shettima sealed bilateral deals to unlock $2.5–$3 billion annually in carbon market revenue over the next decade, fueling Nigeria’s low-carbon transition.

“Nigeria’s renewed climate agenda is not just aspiration it is action,” his office stated.The VP’s return signals immediate follow-up on COP30 outcomes, including operationalizing Nigeria’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and accelerating green growth.
