A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, under the aegis of the Plateau State PDP Progressive Vanguard, has pledged total loyalty and support to the new Acting National Chairman of the party, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The group also endorsed the cancellation of the planned November 15–16, 2025 National Convention.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Saturday at Devotion Hotel, Dadin Kowa, Jos, the Vanguard described Mohammed’s emergence as timely and necessary to restore order following what it termed “widespread impunity and disregard for due process” under the suspended chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagun.
Chairman of the group, Hon. Isa Musa Kwarshak, who addressed journalists, said Damagun’s suspension stemmed from “alleged incompetence, financial misconduct, and disobedience to court orders.”
He faulted the purported suspension of some National Working Committee (NWC) members by Damagun’s faction, describing the move as “illegal and borne out of personal vendetta.”
The group commended the Federal High Court judgment that halted the planned national convention, saying it offered the PDP an opportunity for reconciliation and reorganisation.
It accused Damagun of frustrating peace efforts by sidelining key stakeholders, including former governors Sule Lamido, Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom, and Ayo Fayose.
According to the Vanguard, “Any attempt to sideline leaders who have sustained the PDP over the years will be resisted.”
The group aligned fully with the new leadership’s decision to seek legal interpretation from the Court of Appeal and to appeal the ex parte order obtained from an Oyo State High Court.
It also congratulated Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Alhaji Isa Dansidi on their appointments as Chairman and Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees.
The Vanguard reaffirmed its loyalty to Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed and urged members nationwide to support efforts aimed at rebuilding the party.
