The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a three-year-old boy reported stolen and arrested six suspects linked to a child-stealing and trafficking ring operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos states.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga announced on Sunday that the investigation began after a victim reported the theft on September 4, 2025. Operatives from the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka swiftly launched the probe.
The breakthrough came with the arrest of prime suspect Samuel Ibe from Umusiome, Nkpor Uno. His confession implicated his 35-year-old mother, Agatha Ejeweh, and 15-year-old brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera.
The trail extended to Enugu State, where 30-year-old Angela Eze was apprehended for collaborating with Juliet Onah to transfer the child to Lagos.
Acting on intelligence, police in Lagos arrested China Cosmas and successfully recovered the boy, who has been reunited with his family in good health.
The victim had briefly left her son in Ibe’s care while visiting her shop, only to return and find both missing. All six suspects remain in custody and will face court charges upon conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s resolve to safeguard lives and property, declaring Anambra hostile to criminal activities.
