The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for allocating 35 per cent of cabinet positions to women, ensuring their voices were heard in decision-making processes.
It added that the administration in its commitment to driving positive change, had also approved the sum of N1 billion in soft loans for market women to boost their businesses
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, disclosed this while highlighting key achievements of the ministry under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo in the last year.
She disclosed that the government had targeted 54,000 women for economic empowerment in partnership with the federal government, providing them with entrepreneurial training, access to microfinance, and skills development initiatives.
The Commissioner noted that the Ministry, in synergy with the Office of the Edo First Lady, had “championed women empowerment projects, prioritised girl-child development, and advocated for policies benefiting women and children.”
”These collaborative efforts have driven meaningful development and yielded significant results, and we are proud to report on the progress and key achievements made so far since the inception of His Excellency.”
Continuing, Eugenia disclosed that the Ministry is set to host the 25th Edition of the National Council on Women Affairs and Child Development scheduled to commence on Monday, November 10.
According to her, the event with the theme: “Strengthening Systems and Deepening Social Impact” is geared towards advancing the Renewed Hope Social Agenda for women, children, the family, and vulnerable groups.
