ADC Slams Anambra Guber Poll as ‘Cash-Drenched Bazaar’

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the just-concluded Anambra gubernatorial election as a “cash-drenched spectacle” that turned democracy into a marketplace, raising grave concerns about Nigeria’s electoral future.

In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the exercise as a “bazaar” riddled with blatant vote-buying, with the incumbent and his party allegedly leading a “cash-for-votes” campaign in full public view.“

Bundles of naira notes changed hands at polling units across the state,” the ADC said, calling it a “brazen violation” of the Electoral Act.

The party also criticized the inaction of key institutions, noting that security agents watched passively as voters faced harassment and inducement, while overwhelmed or indifferent INEC officials failed to enforce basic standards.

“If this is how INEC plans to conduct the 2027 general elections, Nigerians have every reason to fear for the survival of our democracy, especially under global scrutiny,” the statement warned.

Despite the troubling developments, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to a Nigeria where leadership is won through integrity, inclusion, and service not the “crude exchange of cash for votes.”
