Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has unleashed a scathing critique of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), branding his administration a celebration of failure amid widespread poverty and crumbling infrastructure.
In a post shared on X during his recent visit to the state, Sowore detailed a disheartening tour that revealed little to no tangible progress, despite a barrage of glossy campaign billboards pleading for the governor’s re-election.
“The day before yesterday and throughout my visit to Ekiti State, I saw no real development, nothing that could justify the flood of glossy billboards scattered across the state, each one urging people to vote again for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO),” Sowore wrote.
He questioned the normalization of underperformance, asking: “How do we keep celebrating failure in broad daylight? How do we let propaganda paper over poverty, bad roads, collapsing infrastructure, and the absence of visionary leadership?”
Sowore’s observations extended even to the governor’s hometown of Ikogosi, where he found no evidence of favoritism or embellishment.
“Not even in his hometown, Ikogosi, could you see anything tangible,” he noted, adding that “do-nothing governors sometimes try to decorate their hometowns.”
The remarks come as Ekiti gears up for future elections, with Oyebanji’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration facing mounting scrutiny over unfulfilled promises.
Sowore, a vocal critic of the ruling party, used the platform to rally against what he sees as deceptive governance, urging Ekiti residents to demand accountability.
