Respite has come for the Akwa Ibom State-owned broadcasting corporation as Governor Umo Eno has initiated a deal for its transformation into a modern media outfit.
The corporation which houses both the radio and television arms of the media outfit has been in a derelict condition without modern equipment, a corporate office and lacked manpower for its service.
But this is about to change as Governor Eno, has sealed a deal with the Media Guru Consultant, LLC, Dubai, to transform the state-owned corporation, AKBC, to a world-class broadcasting station.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, the governor noted that the agreement which covers provision of consultancy, design, procurement and installation of broadcast equipment, was in fulfillment of the campaign promise he made.
“I want to welcome everyone to the signing ceremony of the agreement between Akwa Ibom State Government and Media Guru Consultant, LLC, for the provision of consultancy, design, procurement, and installation of broadcast equipment for AKBC,” he stated.

According to Governor Eno, the official signing of the agreement will place AKBC on a pedestal to compete favourably in quality broadcasting service delivery with other stations of international repute in Nigeria and beyond.
The governor expressed the optimism that AKBC would vigorously project the people and the state to the world on completion of the project.
Earlier, the Director General of AKBC, Imaobong Udoh, commended Governor Eno for keeping to his promise to change the narrative of the broadcast station for the better.
She expressed the happiness of the management and staff of the broadcast organisation to witness the beginning of the transformation of station to take its rightful place in the broadcasting world.
The DG assured that with the upgrade of the broadcast station set in motion by the state government, Akwa Ibom people in particular and Nigerians in general will witness the best in broadcasting.
The event, which took place at the Government House Uyo, was witnessed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah; Government officials, and staff members of AKBC.
The state government did not however, disclose the cost of the project which is estimated to run into millions of naira and the duration of the completion of the contract.
