The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Paul Chukwuma, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigeria Police Force for their handling of the Anambra State governorship election.
Chukwuma cast his vote on Saturday at Umuleri community in Anambra East Local Government Area around 12:40 p.m., during a poll being closely watched across the state.
Chukwuma, who spoke to PUNCH Online shortly before casting his vote at Ward 14, Umuleri II, Polling Unit 004, on Saturday, praised the timely commencement of the exercise and the early arrival of election materials.
He described the process as smooth and orderly, noting that the presence of security personnel contributed to a peaceful atmosphere at polling units.
“The election commenced on time. Materials arrived on time. I commend INEC. It shows that INEC is part of this exercise,” he said.
Chukwuma also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security agencies, adding that the police had maintained a visible and professional presence across the state.
“I must commend the hierarchy of the police — everywhere, to a large extent, we experienced a hitch-free exercise from the point of view of the security agencies,” he said.
A former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Chukwuma clinched the YPP ticket in April 2025 after receiving 366 “yes” votes in the party’s primary.
His campaign focused on strengthening security, boosting small and medium‑sized businesses, and aligning Anambra State with the Federal Government’s economic agenda.
