The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its
operatives have arrested three people for alleged vote buying during the
Anambra governorship election.
In a statement shared on its X page on Saturday, the agency
said the suspects were apprehended by its operatives monitoring the electoral
process in different parts of the state.
“The suspects are Emeka Ilokasia, arrested at Ward 2,
Njikoka Local government, Anambra; Nwachuwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008),
Awkuzu, Oyi local government and Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi village,
Dukonukofia local government,” the statement reads.
“All the suspects were arrested while participating in the
governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.”
The agency added that the suspects would be charged in court
after investigations are completed.
Earlier today, George Moghalu, governorship candidate of the
Labour Party (LP), said despite the heavy deployment of security personnel for
the election, he had received reports of widespread vote-buying.
Moghalu also described the trend as “most unfortunate” and
warned that the crime undermines the integrity of the electoral process.
Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, had also alleged that
a rival party planned to manipulate the results during the collation process.
“The only concern we have received is from one or two
places, particularly in the south local government, where there are reports of
massive vote buying,” Soludo said.
According to him, one of the candidates from that area
“seems desperate to win the local government and has been sharing N15,000 per
voter”.
