Onuachu delivers statement goal for Trabzonspor after Super Eagles snub

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu made a bold statement with another impressive performance for Trabzonspor, scoring in their 1-1 draw against Alanyaspor on Saturday in the Turkish Super Lig.

Onuachu, who has been in fine form this season, opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a composed finish. After receiving a neat pass from Mustafa Eskihellac, the towering forward showed excellent footwork to beat his marker before slotting past the goalkeeper.

The goal, his eighth league strike in 12 appearances, underlined his technical quality and reliability in front of goal, defying the stereotype that tall forwards lack finesse.

Alanyaspor fight back for a draw

Despite Trabzonspor’s early dominance, Ianis Hagi restored parity for Alanyaspor in the 73rd minute after a sustained spell of pressure.

Onuachu had late chances to reclaim the lead for his side but failed to convert, and the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate at Papara Park.

Snubbed from Nigeria squad

Earlier on Saturday, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle released his squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon, with Onuachu’s name missing from the list, a decision that has raised eyebrows among fans.

The 30-year-old remains one of Nigeria’s top-performing strikers in Europe, boasting better stats than Akor Adams and Tolu Arokodare, both of whom were included in the squad despite modest goal returns.

Onuachu, however, seems determined to let his performances speak for him as he continues to impress in Turkey, hoping his consistency will eventually earn him a recall to the national team.
