The Labour Party (LP) lost at the polling unit of its leader, Peter Obi, in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
According to results announced at about 3 p.m. on Saturday at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, polled 73 votes, defeating the Labour Party’s George Moghalu, who scored 57 votes.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate came third in the unit with 38 votes.
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, had cast his ballot earlier in the day at the same polling unit, having campaigned vigorously for his party in Anambra, where he previously secured over 95 percent of votes in the 2023 elections.
The loss at Obi’s home polling unit comes amid broader reports of vote buying across the state, a factor the former presidential candidate has criticised in earlier statements, describing it as detrimental to Nigeria’s democracy.
