Oil giant TotalEnergies has constructed a state–of–the–art, fully equipped block of wards for the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt barracks.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations on the command’s X account (formerly Twitter) on November 2025, the move by the oil company is commendable.

The project was commissioned on 7 November 2025 by the Managing Director (MD) and Country Chair of TotalEnergies Upstream Company in Nigeria, Mr Matthieu Bouyer, as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

While making his remarks, the MD/Country Chair stated that it was truly inspiring to see the dedication and resilience demonstrated by the 6 Division Nigerian Army (NA) in protecting the company’s personnel and facilities while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

He further explained that the construction of the hospital wards came about as part of TotalEnergies’ CSR initiative to support the 6 Division and the Nigerian Army. This, he maintained, was the product of a longstanding partnership between the Nigerian Army and TotalEnergies.

Speaking further, Mr  Matthieu noted that the execution and handover of the project also showcased the company’s dedication to supporting national security and well-being.

He added that the facility is expected to enhance medical care, ease congestion, and boost the morale of soldiers and their families.

Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, expressed gratitude to TotalEnergies for demonstrating a high level of cooperation. This, he said, was exemplified through the CSR projects executed in support of the Nigerian Army.

General Emekah said, “The event underscores the importance of collaboration between the private sector and the military in promoting peace and stability in the region. The hospital wards serve as a testament to what can be achieved through joint efforts, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the nation.

The GOC therefore pledged to sustain the partnership by providing security support for TotalEnergies’ operations.

He also urged the 6 Division Medical Services and Hospital to maintain the facility to the highest standards, delivering exceptional medical care to personnel and their families.

The newly commissioned medical facility has three wards, comprising children, women and men wards. These wards are equipped with 24 ABS 2 cranks hospital beds, 24 ABS hospital side lockers, 10 Patient 3 panel/fold ward screens and a Commode wheelchair.

Others included, adjustable tripod walking stick, hospital examination couch/tables, mobile hospital examination, Patient trolley and sphygmomanometers.
