Shekarau made the statement on Wednesday during a press
conference held at his Mundubawa residence in Kano as part of his 70th birthday
celebration.

“My politics is my religion and my religion is my politics.
I will remain in the political arena for life, and I am not going to check
out,” the former Minister of Education said.

He urged Nigerians to take active part in politics to help
produce credible and trustworthy leaders who would serve the people with
sincerity and fairness.

According to him, participation in the political process is
a religious duty for every responsible citizen. “It is a duty upon every
citizen to contribute and participate in the political process to ensure the
emergence of credible leadership. Since the only way we can get such leaders is
through politics, it has become a religious obligation to take part,” he
explained.

Reflecting on his life, Shekarau thanked Allah for sparing
his life to reach 70 years, expressing gratitude for good health and the
opportunity to serve humanity in various roles.

“I am forever grateful to Almighty Allah for the gift of
life, health, and the opportunity to serve humanity. I also owe my late parents
a debt of gratitude for training me with discipline, humility, and the fear of
God. Whatever I am today, I owe it to their guidance,” he said.

The two-term governor also appreciated his family, friends,
classmates, political associates, and supporters for their love and
encouragement over the years, praying to Allah to reward them abundantly.

Shekarau stressed that leadership is a trust from God and
not a privilege or a means to power.

He called on leaders to prioritize service, honesty, and
justice in governance. “Leadership is a trust from Allah. It is not about
privilege or power, but about responsibility. We must serve with fairness,
compassion, and accountability,” he added.
