The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N42,500,000 to Mrs. Margret Taye Odofin, a 70-year-old widow and retiree, who was defrauded by her bank account and investment officer, Mrs. Kehinde Olawale Yusuf.
The funds, presented as a bank draft, were handed over on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate. Acting Director Bawa Kaltungo made the presentation on behalf of EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
Mrs. Odofin had petitioned the EFCC in December 2024, alleging that Yusuf, an employee at a new-generation bank, lured her between November and December 2020 into investing in Ponzi schemes with promises of N1,700,000 quarterly returns.
Instead, Yusuf siphoned N47 million from Odofin’s account, transferring it to various accounts without authorization.
Yusuf then cut off contact and fled to the United Kingdom after Odofin raised questions.
Undeterred by the suspect’s escape, the EFCC traced and recovered the stolen assets. An emotional Odofin expressed profound gratitude: “I cannot believe this. When we reported the case in the United Kingdom, where Mrs.
“Kehinde Yusuf absconded after defrauding me, they said the offence was committed in Nigeria and advised us to report to the EFCC. Today, I am singing to the glory of God because He has used the Commission to wipe away my tears.
“I have waited years to get my hard-earned money back.”I want to thank Mr. Ola Olukoyede for the excellent job he is doing. I will campaign for the EFCC anywhere because today they have given me every reason to believe and testify that the Commission is working sincerely. I pray for you all that you continue to succeed.”
Kaltungo reaffirmed the EFCC’s dedication under Olukoyede’s leadership to delivering justice for fraud victims.
“I want to sincerely appreciate you for having trust in the Commission to help you recover your hard-earned money. We are happy that we have convinced you of our professionalism and capacity to resolve any fraudulent activity within our mandate,” he stated.
