The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Ben Okolo, head of Force Intelligence, to oversee all police operations during Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election.
DIG Okolo will coordinate field activities in line with the strategic framework set by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, ensuring seamless security coverage across the state.
The announcement follows IGP Egbetokun’s two-day stakeholder engagements in Anambra, which have already enhanced coordination and public confidence.
According to PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, officers have secured key locations statewide, maintaining high visibility to prevent disruptions and reassure residents.
A PSC monitoring team, chaired by retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, arrived in Awka on Thursday to supervise police conduct and enforce professionalism throughout the poll.
Lakanu, who leads the Commission’s Standing Committee on Police Matters, pledged rigorous oversight in all 21 local government areas to safeguard voters, officials, and electoral materials.
To boost transparency, the PSC released dedicated hotlines for real-time reporting of officer misconduct or exemplary service.
Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, recently assigned as election coordinator, has rolled out a detailed operational manual emphasizing order, impartiality, and accountability.
The PSC reaffirmed its constitutional role in promoting credible elections and vowed full collaboration with security agencies and INEC to deliver a peaceful, free, and fair process in Anambra.
