In furtherance of his commitments to kick poverty out of Adamawa and empowered its citizens, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the disbursements of 5bn to 100,000 poor citizens under his empowerments programme known as Fintiri Business Wallet.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Yola, the Director General, Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, (PAWECA) Dr.Micheal Zirra, said that following the Governor’s approval, preparation have reached an advance stage for fresh disbursement of 5bn to 100,000 in December with each beneficiary smiling home with 50,000 each.
He said since the commencement of the programme, over 50,000 people have benefited from the programme so far.
He said the programme has reduced poverty index of the state from 74% to 60%, stressing that they have already disbursed 2bn to 40,000 beneficiaries.
This according to him, is inline with the governor’s commitments not only to invest in infrastructural development but also in human capital Development which is very crucial to the development of the state .
He admitted that the previous exercise faced some challenges where some people who filled the forms couldn’t get their money due to so many factors.
The DG further noted that some of their staff who were found to engaged in shoddy practices such as removing genuine beneficiaries from the list have been arrested and will face the wrath of the law with over 1000 fake names removed from the beneficiaries lists.
Zira also assured the people of Adamawa state of the Agency commitments to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries whose the programme is meant for across all the polling units, electoral wards and 21 local governments.
On modalities put in place to ensure effective distributions of forms, he noted that there is a distribution committee in each local government comprising of chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors, representatives of Muslims council, CAN, DSS among other stakeholders.
