Air Chief orders smarter, harder air strikes to secure Nigeria

Sunday Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, has ordered commanders of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to intensify intelligence-led precision air strikes across all operational theatres as part of renewed efforts to crush insurgents, terrorists, and other criminal groups threatening the nation’s security.

At a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, the Air Chief charged his officers to “fly smarter and strike harder,” setting a new course for coordinated, technology-driven operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across Nigeria.

Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the meeting focused on synchronising strategies, strengthening inter-service collaboration, and reinforcing the NAF’s role as a decisive instrument of national security and a source of confidence for Nigerians.

Addressing the commanders, Aneke emphasised the need for agility and intelligence-driven warfare in the face of evolving security challenges.

“We must fly smarter and strike harder not only to neutralise threats but to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians. Every mission must reflect professionalism, purpose, and patriotism”, he said.

The Air Chief underscored that the success of ongoing counterterrorism and internal security efforts depends on the seamless coordination of air, land, and maritime operations.

He assured that the NAF would continue to deepen cooperation with the Nigerian Army, Navy, and other security agencies to maintain a united front in combating insecurity nationwide.

Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and professional development of NAF personnel, Aneke pledged increased investment in technology, innovation, and training to boost operational effectiveness.

“Every airman and airwoman has a role to play in achieving our collective vision. I will ensure you are equipped, trained, and motivated to deliver results,” he stated.

Aneke also reiterated the NAF’s alignment with the federal government’s security agenda, stressing that the force would continue to apply decisive yet disciplined military power while maintaining high standards of conduct and accountability.

“We will apply decisive force against those who threaten our nation, with discipline, humanity, and professionalism. The Nigerian people, government, and international partners expect nothing less from us,” he added.

He tasked commanders to translate strategy into decisive battlefield outcomes, sustain operational tempo, and ensure that every sortie delivers measurable impact.

“The safety and confidence of our citizens are our mission success indicators. Nigeria is counting on us, and we will not fail,” he declared.
