Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has likened the party to a cat with nine lives.

He said this while presiding over a meeting on the prevailing crisis in the party.

Following the judgment of the Abuja Court of Appeal to cancel the National Convention of the PDP slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, the opposition party fell into a deeper crisis.

Immediately after the judgement, the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) met and suspended the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three others.

Not happy with the suspension, Anyanwu’s faction which is loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, also suspended Damagum and four others.

In his opening remarks on Wednesday, Chairman of the BoT said the PDP would not die as many people want it to.

He said the BoT was ready to work with all stakeholders including the NWC, National Assembly caucus so that the convention in Ibadan would be successful.

“Our party has withstood trials, transitions, and temptations because it is founded on the enduring principles of justice, fairness, equity, and national inclusion.”

“Senator Kure, a while ago, alluded to the fact that the party is declining when she was giving us her prayers.

“But I want to remind you that this party, PDP, can be likened to the cat. The cat has nine lives. PDP has nine lives. We are not declining to anywhere. We are rising and rising and rising. And we will overcome.

“However, recent developments within our ranks have caused understandable concerns. Detentions, misunderstandings, and regrettable incidents that have played out in public are not reflective of the ideals and character of the PDP.”
