Residents of Ushafa in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the federal government to prioritize the security and welfare of its citizens, especially those residing in remote areas.

Emeka Ohaeri, chairman of the Pmagbe Community Landlord Association, Ushafa, made the call during the inauguration and handing over of a security outpost built by the community to the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

Ohaeri, who decried the security challenges the community has faced over the years, said the security outpost project was initiated by the residents to address the security concerns in the area.

He expressed the hope that the presence of the VGN security outpost will reduce kidnapping and other criminal activities in the neighbourhood.

“It is with great pride and gratitude that I welcome you all to this historic occasion: the commissioning of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria Security Outpost in our dear Pmagbe community.

“For years, our community has faced serious security challenges—ranging from kidnappings to burglaries—often perpetrated by criminal elements exploiting the dam’s terrain to infiltrate our neighbourhood. These unfortunate incidents have threatened not only the peace of our residents but also the safety of the dam that provides potable water to the entire Federal Capital Territory.

“In the face of these threats, the men of the Pmagbe Security Outfit, the Nigerian Police Force’s IG squad, and the Nigerian Army have worked tirelessly to keep us safe. On behalf of the entire community, I extend our heartfelt appreciation for their commitment and service, often rendered under challenging conditions.’’

Speaking while inaugurating the security outpost, Chinedu Obika, member representing the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC)/Bwari Area Council, praised the community for initiating the project, saying that “if we want good security, we should be able to fund it.”

The lawmaker advocated for the dedication of a percentage from the FCT’s internally generated revenue to secure the residents.
