Governor DIkko Umar Radda of Katsina state Tuesday distributed 90, 000 varieties of foods to the most vulnerable families across the state to reduce malnutrition.
The governor made the distributions at Karakanda Stadium a month after the submission of a report to the malnutrition Committee chaired by Malam Ahmed Abdullahi Filin Samji.
Governor said the food distribution is a fulfillment of the obligation of office and open assistance to vulnerable families. He stated that all the selected families will be given the food according to the level of their need as recommended by the committee.
He added that those on the admission for malnutrition in the hospitals will be given two bags of maize and milled and those on survival in their homes will be given bags of either maize or milled.
Governor Radda said his administration has geared up for the assistance following the red alert of malnutrition reported by Doctors Without Borders in Katsina recently.
He said: “It is part of the obligation of the office to put more emphasis on how to improve malnutrition across the 34 local government areas.
“For direct response to human needs, we created 9 centers for equitable distribution of food in supported families with special needs. We are providing long-term measures on the improvement of malnutrition through the encouragement and support of irrigation farmers across the state.”
He stated further that all the admitted children’s mal nutrients will be given adequate medication and food for survival.
