The Kano State Government has approved the construction of weighbridge facilities worth N586.5 million to enhance trade regulation, logistics efficiency, and revenue generation across the state.
The project, approved during the 33rd Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, will see weighbridges built in Doguwa Local Government Area and five major entry points into the state.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the initiative aims to check vehicle overloading, safeguard road infrastructure, and ensure accurate taxation on goods transported within and outside the state.

He said the move aligns with the government’s broader economic agenda to promote a business-friendly environment and position Kano as a regional logistics hub.
The weighbridge project, according to the commissioner, will be under the supervision of the state’s Ministry of Mineral Resources and will form part of the administration’s N19 billion investments in key sectors.
The council also approved strategic policy initiatives aimed at boosting housing development, energy sufficiency, and industrial growth, which include the construction of 50 low-cost housing units across local government areas, the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO to promote a reliable power supply, and the adoption of the Kano State Electricity Policy to guide the state’s renewable energy drive.
