Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna on Sunday, at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium suffered a painful home defeat, as first-half goals from Sunday Megwo’s header and another goal by Chibueze Damian sealed the visiting Abia Warriors win over their host.

The Ikon Allah Boys started the game well by breaking into the visiting, Abia Warriors’ defensive setup and created myriads of scoring chances, but failed to convert the several chances into goals within the first twenty minutes.

The lone goal from Niger Tornadoes came in the second half, and reduced the deficit in the 54th minute through Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai after fierce attack by the host team.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Niger Tornadoes Chief Coach, Majin Mohammed blamed the home defeat on over confidence by his boys who were carried away by the outcome of their last outing against Kano Pillars.

“The players were too focused on the result against Kano Pillars and got carried away, thinking Abia Warriors game would be an easy win for them”.

“We were in control of the game in the first 20 minutes, we had our chances but couldn’t utilise them and the visitors capitalized on some of the defensive errors and took their chances, that was how conceded two cheap goals”.

Majin who appealed to supporters for calm said, “What happened today is common in football, we also went to Kano and got three points, we will prepare again to see what we can also get in Bauchi against Wikki Tourists”.

Also speaking, the Head Coach of Abia Warriors, Imama Amapakabo, attributed his boy’s 2 goals defeat against their host to hard work, strategic planning and as well swift utilization of chances to their advantage.
