Cheque Unleashes ‘Desperado’: A Powerful Anthem for Relentless Dreamers

Following the smooth display of ‘Bad Boy’ in August, Nigerian hitmaker Cheque is back with his second release of the year, ‘Desperado,’ a powerful song that captures the restless ambition and divine drive of a generation that refuses to settle.

On ‘Desperado,’ Cheque moves like a man driven by purpose. Built on a foundation of hard-hitting Afro-fusion drums and lush melodies, the record vibrates with confidence and clarity.
The line, “God bless my hustle / Never settle,” perfectly sums up the artist’s unbending spirit. This is Cheque at his most focused: daring, unafraid, and full of self-assurance.

Speaking on the track, Cheque describes ‘Desperado’ as “the anthem for anyone chasing greatness, no matter the odds.” It’s the soundtrack to late nights, bold dreams, and the belief that even when the world doubts you, your light must shine.

From the man who gave us genre-defining hits like ‘Zoom’ and ‘LOML,’ ‘Desperado’ finds Cheque expanding his sonic vocabulary, blending smooth lyricism with futuristic production that echoes ambition, luxury, and liberation.
It’s music for the visionary, for those who live in the fast lane but still pause to celebrate every win.

Meet Superboy Cheque: The Golden Voice of Nigeria’s Hip Hop

Akanbi Bamidele Brett, known on stage as “Cheque” (also called Superboy Cheque), is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter born on March 23, 1995, in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

Raised in Ondo Town, he pursued and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Cheque’s musical journey began during his university years under the stage name “Kyle B,” where he explored gospel-hip-hop and freestyle sessions.

By 2019, he caught the attention of industry heavyweights and officially entered the mainstream. In February 2019, he signed with Phyno’s imprint, Penthauze Music, and released the EP ‘Razor’ in 2020. This project included his breakout hit, ‘Zoom.’

Since his breakout, Cheque has crafted a distinct sound: a fusion of trap, rap, Afro-pop, and melodic hooks. This ambitious blend bridges genre lines and speaks to a rapidly growing fanbase.

Although he first rose under the Penthauze banner, recent updates indicate he is no longer part of that label, marking a new chapter in his career. With his intelligent word-play, melodic confidence, and ever-evolving style.
