EFCC Suspends Officers For Allegedly Extorting ₦10m From Rapper Oladips

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended several of its operatives following allegations that they extorted ₦10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in Abuja.

Oladips had earlier accused the anti-graft agency of detaining him for five days and forcing him to part with ₦10 million before regaining his freedom, despite having no evidence of wrongdoing. His claims, which went viral on social media, sparked public outrage and renewed debate about police and agency misconduct.

According to Oyewale, the EFCC treated the musician’s allegations with “the utmost seriousness,” leading to the immediate suspension of the officers involved pending the outcome of a full-scale internal investigation.

“The commission wishes to state unreservedly that the grim picture painted by the artiste does not reflect the true character of the EFCC,” Oyewale said..

“The officers involved have been relieved of their operational duties while investigations continue.”

He further confirmed that the affected operatives have been summoned to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja for questioning as part of the disciplinary process.

Oyewale stressed that the EFCC remains committed to transparency and integrity, promising that any operative found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.

“If, however, the allegation proves false and aimed at maligning the EFCC, suitable penalties will also apply,” he added.

The commission urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, reaffirming its dedication to fighting corruption and financial crimes without bias or compromise.
