Tinubu, Trump will meet soon over Christian genocide claims

Daniel Bwala, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on
policy communication, says the Nigerian leader and US President Donald Trump
will meet “in the coming days” to discuss claims of Christian genocide in the
country.

The statement follows Trump’s remark that the Nigerian
government has ignored attacks on Christians, a claim that has sparked fierce
debate.

Bwala highlighted the commitment of both leaders to
combatting insurgency and terrorism.

The presidential aide said Trump has supported Nigeria by
authorising arms sales, which Tinubu has effectively utilised in the fight
against terrorism, yielding significant results.

Addressing the controversy over whether terrorists in
Nigeria target only Christians or all faiths, Bwala said any differences in
perspective would be resolved during the upcoming meeting, which could take
place at the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington.

“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have
shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism
against humanity,” he said.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing
the sale of arms to Nigeria and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the
opportunity in the fight against terrorism for which we have massive results to
show for it.

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria
target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences if
they exist would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in
the coming days, either in State House or White House.”

Meanwhile, Riley Moore, member of the US house of
representatives, has issued a warning to the Nigerian government over the
alleged targeted attacks on Christians in the West African nation.

“President Trump has provided forewarning if you do not
correct the current state of inaction to stop the killing of our brothers and
sisters in Christ in your country. The days of the US looking the other way are
over,” the lawmaker wrote on X.

“I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity
that worsens everyday. We want your people to live in peace — all of them,
especially Christians.

“The President has been clear. I would not test his resolve.
Many have tried and all have failed. We will not allow the gates of hell to
prevail against the faithful.”
