Højlund Close To Napoli Move

Napoli have reportedly advanced in talks over a move for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund.

The Denmark international has struggled to find his best form since he joined the club from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.

Hojlund has now fallen out of favour at Trafford following the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko from Wolverhampton Wanderers and RB Leipzig respectively.

The Red Devils are looking to offload Hojlund before the transfer deadline, despite the player expressing a desire to fight for his place in Ruben Amorim’s side.

AC Milan have previously been linked with a possible move, but their need for a new striker has diminished following the recent signing of Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Hojlund could still return to Serie A this summer, with Napoli emerging as one of the leading contenders for his services.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Sports Mole), the Italian champions are ‘advancing in talks’ over a move for the Man United forward.

The update claims that Napoli have held ‘positive’ discussions with the player’s camp about personal terms and their long-term project.

Man United are ready and waiting to finalise a deal with Napoli if Hojlund gives the green light to join Antonio Conte’s side.

Napoli’s need for a new number nine has grown rapidly following the news that Romelu Lukaku could be out for three to four months with a thigh injury.

The Serie A winners recruited Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Udinese prior to Lukaku’s injury, but they need another viable option ahead of a busy campaign that will see the club return to the Champions League.

Hojlund previously spent a season in Serie A with Atalanta, where he scored nine goals and provided four assists in 32 league appearances.

The Dane will have big boots to fill if he heads to Naples, considering Lukaku racked up 14 goals and 10 assists in 36 top-flight matches last term.
