The gathering is seen as a strategic move to shape the future of the opposition party ahead of its national convention.

The meeting, hosted by Governor Dauda Lawal in Gusau, will hold on Saturday, with the governors arriving on Friday evening for a pre-meeting dinner.

In a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala, the gathering was described as a pivotal session to strengthen internal unity and chart the PDP’s political direction.

“Governor Dauda Lawal extends a warm welcome to his counterparts, the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read.

“The governors are convening today (Friday) for an important session of the PDP Governors Forum.

“Governor Lawal will host a dinner this evening, ahead of tomorrow’s strategic meeting.”

Bala added that the closed-door discussions will provide “an opportunity for party leaders to address pressing political issues, strengthen cohesion, and collaborate on developmental initiatives across their respective states.”

He further stressed that, “The PDP must remain united in the face of challenges.

“This meeting is about building bridges, not walls, and ensuring that our governors present a common front for the good of the party and the nation.”

The meeting will also focus on preparations for the PDP national convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.

Political analysts believe the Zamfara gathering will be crucial in uniting party stakeholders ahead of what many describe as a make-or-break convention for the PDP, given recent internal wrangling.

One analyst, Dr. Musa Ibrahim, noted, “If the PDP governors can harmonize their positions in Zamfara, it will send a strong message of resilience to party members nationwide.

“But if divisions persist, it could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.”

By Saturday, the governors are expected to issue a joint communiqué outlining their resolutions and strategies for repositioning the party ahead of future elections.
