The Lion Roars: Madonna University Breaks 10-Year Silence To Honour Wakanow CEO, Bayo Adedeji, With Exclusive PhD

In a remarkable show of recognition, Madonna University, Nigeria, has officially announced its intention to confer an Honorary PhD in Business Administration on Mr Bayo Adedeji, famously known as Bayo Lion, the Group CEO of Wakanow.

For many reasons, this isn’t just a routine academic accolade; the honour is exceptionally rare. In the past 10 years, Madonna University has barely issued this degree, selecting only two distinguished individuals this year, with the Group CEO of West Africa’s leading travel company leading the exclusive list.

The University’s management team made the announcement during an official visit to the Wakanow Headquarters, emphasising that this recognition is a reward purely for “excellence, legacy, and remarkable intelligence,” declaring explicitly: ”

Speaking on the honour, the University representatives noted that Bayo Lion’s recognition is a reward for excellence, legacy, and remarkable intelligence in business leadership. They emphasised that “this award is not about money, but about impact,” highlighting that Bayo Lion has created over 2,000 jobs, a contribution they described as “significant and worthy of emulation.”

They further added that the University hopes to make him an ambassador, to encourage him to continue inspiring others and doing more for society.

The visit to Wakanow’s headquarters was also a moment of celebration and reflection, as the team commended Bayo Lion for his vision, work ethic, and consistent contribution to business growth and empowerment across the continent.

Responding to the recognition, Bayo Lion expressed deep appreciation, saying this acknowledgement from one of Nigeria’s foremost universities means a lot to him and the Wakanow family.

“This honour reminds me that hard work and consistency truly speak for themselves. I’m grateful to Madonna University for this recognition; it’s a push to do even more,” Bayo Lion shared.
