Group organises 40 days prayer for late president Buhari in Abeokuta

A pan-Nigerian movement, The Alternative, on Friday organised 40 days Fidau prayers for the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the prayers in Abeokuta, the Convener, Segun Showunmi, described the late Buhari as an “exemplary leader,” whose legacies would live forever.

He admonished political office holders to examine the lives of past leaders and emulate their commendable actions while eschewing the undesirable ones.

“On this day, we gather in Abeokuta and Katsina to pray and remember former President Muhammadu Buhari. I observed how minimally Buhari lived and how sacrificially he maintained a less-than-flamboyant life. I observed how disciplined he went about his activities while on earth.

“I complete our mourning of him today with a prayer in Abeokuta where I come from and where he also lived in his early days at Alamala barracks and Katsina where he comes from. Hopefully, we can inspire ourselves and future leaders that prayers follow those who have tried their best,” he said.

The Guest Lecturer, Muhammad Adekolu, emphasised the need for all to have the fear of Allah.

He said Buhari lived his life in complete fear of God, expressing belief that his good deeds were the reason for the prayers.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Keesi Central Mosque, Abeokuta, Akeem Olorunishola, advised Nigerians to emulate the good deeds of the late former president, noting that everyone would give an account of their lives at the end.
