The United States government is reportedly reviewing over 55 million visas held by foreign nationals to determine if any holders have violated the conditions of their entry or stay in the country.
According to officials, the review will place all US visa holders under “continuous vetting”.
“Visas will be revoked if there are indications of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organisation,” an official said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted that this initiative is part of broader efforts to tighten immigration controls.
“America’s benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies,” said Matthew Tragesser, spokesperson for US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
As part of the review, social media accounts of prospective students and visitors will also be screened for signs of hostility toward US citizens, culture, government, or institutions.
Officials are instructed to flag individuals advocating or supporting foreign terrorists or committing unlawful antisemitic harassment or violence.
The announcement follows a series of immigration-focused policies under the Trump administration, including visa revocations, travel bans, and increased scrutiny of foreign workers.
