The House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora has launched an application named NiDRes and a website targeted to address diaspora communication challenges.
The launch took place Monday at the First Nigerian Stakeholders Engagement on Diaspora Governance (NiDSEDiG 2025), held at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, who officially launched the initiative, said Nigerians in the diaspora have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavors, and have continued to play vital roles in shaping the Nigerian economy, social and diplomatic progress, thus the need for such seamless communication platforms.
Represented by Patrick Umoh, Abbas said Nigerians’ influence extends across many industries in their countries of residence. “The 10th House considers diaspora engagement as a national priority, one that must translate into structured policies that strengthen our democracy and national unity, he said.
Chairman of the committee, Tochukwu Okere, in is remarks, said the first Nigerian Stakeholders Engagement on Diaspora Governance (NiDSEDiG 2025) was all about bringing together policies, institutions, and technology to create a unified approach to diaspora governance.
He noted that the innovations will ensure “easier access to consular help, emergency aid and welfare services for Nigerians living abroad, using reliable, privacy-protected data to guide planning, protection, and programs, stronger ways to attract investments, share skills, foster innovation, and connect small businesses,” as well as “improved miles for managing migration, fighting trafficking, and providing legal safeguards,” amongst others.
