It was another action-packed weekend for Nigerian footballers across Europe and beyond, with several stars delivering standout performances for their clubs.
From Victor Osimhen’s brilliance in Turkey to Gift Orban’s sharp finish in Italy, here’s a rundown of how some of Nigeria’s finest footballers lit up the pitch.
TURKEY – Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray)
Victor Osimhen continued his fine form in Turkey as Galatasaray came from behind to beat Goztepe 3-1 at RAMS Park, stretching their unbeaten Super Lig run to seven matches.
The visitors stunned the home crowd early on when Efkan Bekiroglu scored in the sixth minute. Moments later, Osimhen thought he had won a penalty after being brought down, but VAR overturned the decision. The Nigerian forward responded the best way possible, slaloming through defenders before wrong-footing the goalkeeper with a calm finish to draw level.
Goztepe’s night went from bad to worse when Malcom Bokele was sent off just before halftime. Osimhen nearly added a second after the restart, but the goalkeeper’s reflex save denied him. Gabriel Sara and Mauro Icardi later found the net to complete Galatasaray’s comeback.
Osimhen was substituted in the 86th minute after another commanding display, taking his tally to six goals across all competitions this season.
With Galatasaray six points clear at the top, attention now turns to their next game against Trabzonspor, where Osimhen will face compatriot Paul Onuachu.
ITALY – Gift Orban (Hellas Verona)
Gift Orban was on target again as Hellas Verona were held to a 2-2 draw by Cagliari in Serie A.
After Roberto Gagliardini gave Verona the lead, Orban was denied by a brilliant save before finally doubling the advantage in the second half with a precise first-time finish. However, late goals from Riyad Idrissi and Mattia Felici denied Verona their first win of the season.
Orban, who was replaced in the 78th minute, has now scored twice this campaign and continues to be one of Verona’s most dangerous players despite their early struggles.
FRANCE – Prosper Peter (Angers)
Nigerian-eligible teenager Prosper Peter announced himself in style for Angers, scoring his first senior goal in their 2-0 win over Lorient at the Stade Raymond-Kopa.
The 18-year-old struck in the 15th minute with a composed left-footed finish but was forced off with an injury shortly after. His replacement, Sidiki Chérif, added the second goal in the 59th minute to seal the victory.
Lorient’s Tosin Aiyegun missed a penalty, while goalkeeper Hervé Koffi ensured Angers’ second league win of the season. Prosper’s brief but bright performance left a lasting impression on the home fans.
ENGLAND – Daniel Udoh (Salford City)
Daniel Udoh was once again among the goals as Salford City earned a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Gillingham in League Two.
Udoh opened the scoring in the seventh minute, racing onto Kallum Cesay’s through ball before slotting past the goalkeeper. Cesay then doubled the lead before halftime. Though Gillingham pulled one back, Udoh’s work rate and pressing were vital in seeing out the result.
With four goals and four assists this season, Udoh’s form has been key to Salford’s rise to third place, just a point off the top.
KUWAIT – Anayo Iwuala (Al Arabi)
Anayo Iwuala inspired Al Arabi SC to a thrilling 2-2 comeback draw against Al-Safa in the AFC Challenge League.
The hosts were two goals up at halftime through Kassem Hayek and Hassan Mehanna, but Iwuala stepped up in the 53rd minute to convert a penalty that sparked the turnaround. Al Arabi drew level sixteen minutes later when Hayek turned the ball into his own net.
The match ended with a flurry of red cards for both sides, but Iwuala’s leadership and composure stood out. He now has four goals in four appearances this season.
POLAND – Paul Mukairu (Pogoń Szczecin)
Paul Mukairu continued his reputation as a late-game hero, coming off the bench to score the winner in Pogoń Szczecin’s 2–1 victory over Cracovia.
Introduced in the 76th minute, the Nigerian forward curled home a superb effort in the 87th minute after Kamil Grosicki’s equaliser had levelled the game. Mukairu has now scored three times this season, all decisive goals, helping Szczecin move up to 11th in the Ekstraklasa standings.
SWEDEN – Samuel Nnamani (Nordic United)
Samuel Nnamani was the saviour for Nordic United, coming off the bench to score twice in a dramatic 3-3 draw with Sollentuna FK.
With his team trailing 3-2, Nnamani equalised in the 57th minute and then gave his side the lead moments later. Sollentuna, however, found a late equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Nnamani has now netted 11 goals this season, keeping Nordic United at the top of the Ettan Norra table with 59 points.
UKRAINE – Prosper Obah (LNZ Cherkasy)
Prosper Obah kept his hot streak alive in Ukraine, scoring again as LNZ Cherkasy defeated Metalist 1925.
The forward struck in the 62nd minute, his third goal in as many games, to secure Cherkasy’s third straight win and extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
Obah has now scored five goals and provided one assist in ten appearances, helping LNZ Cherkasy stay top of the Ukrainian league table with 20 points.
