758b bond: Give President Tinubu the benefit of doubt

From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar

The Director General of the National Pensions Commission, PenCom Ms Omolola Oloworaran has asked police pensioners to give President Tinubu the benefit of doubt on their pension issues.

The PenCom DG made the appeal in Calabar during an interactive session with police pensioners  from the South South Zone of the country within the week.

She disclosed that the president is the first in Nigeria’s history to approve almost a trillion naira for ordinary Nigerians through the pension scheme and said the president is eager to resolve the challenges facing retirees in Nigeria.

“This is the first time that we have seen a president who is bold enough to approve almost one trillion naira for ordinary Nigerians, nobody has done that in Nigeria’s history.

“First time we see a president who says go and resolve pension issues, give the president the benefit of doubt, he is eager to resolve the challenges  with police pensioners”, she said.

She said they are still working on the 758 billion naira bond approved by President Tinubu for pensioners in Nigeria. She disclosed  that the bond will be issued soon having scaled a number of processes.

She also disclosed that the police are fighting for a righteous cause and the commission under her leadership will provide acceptable solutions to the agitations of the retired police officers.

Earlier, Ofem Mbang National Legal Officer, Police Retirees Association  decried the meagre entitlements retirees receive in the present arrangement saying they want a Police Pension Board to oversee their pensions.

Christopher Effiong, Chairman, Cross River State Chapter of the Police Retirees Association said they want a fair treatment.
