SDP Expels Former Chairman Shehu Gabam, Over Misconduct Financial Misappropriation

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former national chairman, Shehu Gabam, national youth leader Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and several other top officials for alleged misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office, the party announced on Thursday.

The decision, made by the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, followed a thorough investigation and adoption of a disciplinary committee’s findings and a white paper reviewing the allegations.

Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP’s national publicity secretary, told reporters at the party’s national secretariat that the expulsions were the culmination of months-long disciplinary proceedings.

He said the NWC had suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and national auditor Clarkson Nnadi on June 24 after establishing a prima facie case of misconduct and financial impropriety.

“The party set up an independent Disciplinary Committee on July 4, 2025, which conducted a two-week investigation and submitted its report on July 18,” Aiyenigba said.

“The NWC reviewed and adopted the white paper on August 15, paving the way for the expulsions.”

In addition to Gabam and Uchechukwu, the expelled members include Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu.

Aiyenigba accused them of disloyalty and illegally entering the party’s national secretariat on July 28, where they were allegedly caught by security operatives with sensitive documents and valuables.

The expelled members are now facing criminal prosecution.Aiyenigba emphasized that the expulsions, effective immediately from October 23, were unanimously endorsed by the NWC to restore integrity, discipline, and order within the SDP.

He added that further administrative measures from the white paper would be implemented to prevent future violations.
