Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has committed his long-term future to the Premier League giants after signing a fresh two-year contract extension.
The initial deal of Ruben Dias, 28, was due to expire in 2027, but his new contract will now run until 2029, with an option of a further 12 months.
Dias, who joined City from Benfica in 2020 for £65 million, has been a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s defence, helping the club secure four Premier League titles, a Champions League crown, an FA Cup and the EFL Cup in just five years at the Etihad.
“I am incredibly happy today,” Dias said after putting pen to paper. “I love Manchester, it is my home now, and I love the Manchester City fans. When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, hailed Dias’ influence both on and off the pitch, describing him as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch.”
With Dias secured, City are now expected to turn their focus to other key contract renewals. John Stones and Bernardo Silva are both entering the final year of their deals, while captain Ilkay Gundogan and goalkeeper Ederson also have less than 12 months remaining.
Meanwhile, Rodri, Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake all have two years left on their contracts, while academy graduate Rico Lewis is understood to be close to signing a new five-year deal.
