Take me with my lawyer – Moment Sowore was picked by Nigeria Police

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, demanded that his
lawyer be allowed to accompany him when operatives of the Nigeria Police Force
took him from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The activist, who was at the court on Thursday to meet with
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, was arrested
on the court premises.

Although officers in the video could be heard saying that
the activist was not being arrested, they said the Commissioner of Police “said
we should bring you to the office.” Sowore questioned why no letter of
invitation had been issued.

He insisted that his lawyer be allowed to accompany him to
the Commissioner’s office, saying: “You said the Commissioner of Police said
you should arrest me by force? You didn’t bring any letter of invitation. You
have to take me with my lawyer. You know we have to stand for you when they
oppress you, but since you are standing for oppression, no problem.”

The officers granted Sowore’s request, and they left the
court premises for the Commissioner’s office.
