The President of the Lagos State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has denied the rumours that he did not attend the recent Ndigbo Heritage Day celebration in Ikeja because of threats by some individuals and groups.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent in Lagos, he said that he did not attend the event because he received the news that he had lost his in-law and he cannot be celebrating while a burial is being planned.
Ossai clarified that he neither saw nor heard about any court injunction and would have attended the event but for the sad news. According to him, “After the meeting where I signed a peace deal with the Mr. Solomon Ogbonna at the DSS, I have not had any contact with him and I am not aware that an injunction was issued against me because none was served on me.
“I had made arrangements to attend the Igbo Heritage Day celebration before I received the bad news. I am a supporter of any event that promotes the Igbo culture and tradition and will do everything that portrays the people in good light,” he said.
The President of Lagos Ohanaeze explained his absence at the event was not connected to any restraining order or threat of violence by any one.
Ossai stated Igbo Heritage Day was put together to celebrate the rich culture of Igbo people and show that they are one people despite their differences, adding that he would not do anything to undermine it.
He urged Igbo people in Lagos State to reunite and work together for the growth of Ohanaeze Ndigbo
Ossai also charged Igbo people to obey the laws of the land and live in peace with their neigbbours.
