The Niger State Government has approved comprehensive free medical care for all surviving victims of the deadly Essa tanker explosion, with over N10 million in drugs and supplies already delivered to treating hospitals.
Announcing the initiative during a visit to affected facilities, Special Adviser on Special Duties Dr. Murtala Bagana said approximately 50 injured victims are receiving treatment for burns and inhalation injuries at Federal Medical Centre Bida, General Hospitals in Bida and Agaie, National Hospital Abuja, Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, and FMC Jabi.
Cash donations were also presented to affected families. The government commended FMC Bida’s swift response, the Ministry of Health, emergency teams, and Katcha Local Council for coordinated rescue efforts, while praising Rep. Saidu Musa Abdullahi for providing ambulances to transfer critical cases to Abuja.
A mass burial has been conducted in Katcha with prayers for the deceased and recovery of the injured.
Normalcy has returned to the community, but authorities urged residents to avoid scooping fuel from fallen tankers and called on the federal government to urgently repair the dilapidated Jebba-Mokwa-Bida-Agaie-Lapai-Lambata road, which contributed to the tragedy.
