Kogi State Polytechnic Seeks Arrest of Staff Member in Alleged Salary Fraud

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has called on the state House of Assembly to arrest and prosecute Mr. Abdul Hassan Sani, a staff member accused of attempting to defraud the institution through false claims.

In a statement by Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol, the polytechnic clarified misleading reports about payroll irregularities dating back to 2014, before the current leadership assumed office.

The issue arose when Mr. Sani’s complaint prompted an inquiry from the Kogi State Auditor General’s Office on August 3, 2021, questioning his removal from the payroll.

The polytechnic’s Registrar responded on August 31, 2021, stating that Mr. Sani’s claimed appointment as an Assistant Executive Officer lacked documentation, posting records, or clearance from a 2016 staff screening.

The file number he claimed belonged to a female staff member employed in 2014, who had valid records. Despite this, Mr. Sani was paid salaries from June 2014 to November 2015.Earlier this year, Mr. Sani petitioned the state House of Assembly, leading to a summons.

The Registrar provided a consistent explanation, satisfying the committee. The polytechnic emphasized that no payroll irregularities have occurred under the current management, which exposed the issue.

The institution commended the state House of Assembly for its objectivity and Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for his efforts in eliminating payroll fraud through staff audits.

The management urged the Assembly to prosecute Mr. Sani to deter similar fraudulent acts.
