The industrial action embarked upon by Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Gidan Waya chapter, following directives of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions in Kaduna State (JUTIKS), has been suspended.

The announcement of the suspension  was contained in a statement signed by the chairman of the Gidan Waya chapter of the union, Dr. Christopher Nuhu Yerima and made available to Blueprint Tuesday. The suspension took effect from October 20, 2025.

The statement said the decision to suspend the strike followed a commitment by the Kaduna state government under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani to implement 70% of the COMPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structure with effect from October during a meeting with the joint unions.

The statement also said the government has agreed to implement the 65 – year retirement age for non academic staff.

The joint union of tertiary institutions in Kaduna state on September 30th, 2025, embarked on an indefinite strike action as a result of government’s failure to honour and implement agreements reached regarding the implementation of CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure and retirement age of 65 for non academic staff.

The statement  said in line with JUTIKS’ directives and the resolutions of the Gidan Waya chapter reached on Monday 20, 2025, the industrial action stands suspended.

It called on members to resume work accordingly.
