The Kwara state government Tuesday said it has secured 250 units from the federal government renewed hope for a mass housing scheme floated by the President Bola Tinubu administration to provide affordable houses to Nigerians.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, stated this while reeling out achievements of his ministry during quarterly inter- ministerial press briefing being coordinated by the ministry of communications.
He said the state government has also commenced clearing and payment of compensation for land acquired for its proposed smart city.
“We have commenced clearing and compensation processes for the Kwara Smart City site, secured 250 Federal Housing Units, and identified land across 16 local government areas for the Renewed Hope Mass Housing Scheme”, the commissioner said.
Similarly , the commissioner for transportation, Lafia Sabi, said the ministry has taken delivery of 1,000 life jackets from the federal ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and have distributed same across the five riverine areas of the state, namely Baruten, Edu, Moro, Kaiama and Patigi local government areas to enhance safety on the water ways.
In her presentation, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Development, Dr Mariam Imam Nnafatima, said over 200 street beggars evacuated from the streets in Ilorin, the state capital have been repatriated to their respective home states.
She said a total renovation of the rehabilitation center at Amayo and Elders Home was ongoing to make it functional, while the state government has also been combating drug abuse in collaboration with the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) in the state.
